San Juan Oaks Golf Club, Hollister, CA

San Juan Oaks Golf Club, set in the rolling hills of Hollister, California, is a Fred Couples Signature Design created with architect Gene Bates in 1996. The par-72 championship layout stretches over 7,100 yards, moving through oak-studded valleys and golden hillsides that highlight both beauty and strategy. In recent years, Gene Bates returned to lead a thoughtful renovation, refining bunkering, greens, and playability while preserving the course’s natural character. In 2024, I had the privilege of photographing San Juan Oaks—one of my favorite shoots of the year—capturing not only the course’s dramatic vistas but also its striking architecture, which perfectly complements the landscape.
