Max A. Mandel Municipal Golf Course, affectionately known as “The Max,” was designed by Robert Trent Jones II, and is a spectacular public course perched above the Rio Grande. Opening in 2012 on donated land, the par-72 layout spans 270 acres of sprawling South Texas terrain, weaving through deep arroyos, century-old mesquite groves, and offering dramatic riverfront views. Playing to over 7,200 yards from the back tees, yet accessible via five tee options down to around 4,800 yards, it offers something for every golfer. Since opening, The Max has garnered accolades—ranking #9 among Texas municipal courses in 2025—praised for its scenery, design, and community value.
