Maderas Golf Club, Poway, California

Maderas Golf Club, tucked into the rolling hills of Poway just north of San Diego, is a stunning 18-hole layout designed by Johnny Miller and Robert Muir Graves. It opened in 2000. Celebrated for its dramatic elevation changes, rugged rock formations, and desert canyon setting with creeks, lakes, waterfalls, and over 40 acres of native wildflowers, it’s consistently ranked among California’s finest public courses. I've had the privilege of photographing Maderas twice—once in 2015 and again in 2023—capturing its architectural nuance and scenic charm with each visit.
