Wingpointe was one of Salt Lake City’s municipal golf courses until it closed in 2015 to make room for a proposed airport runway—one that, years later, has still not been built. I photographed all of the city’s munis twice, in 2011 and 2012 and again in 2018, but shot Wingpointe only during that first visit, before it was lost.

Though treeless and modest in scale, Wingpointe was my favorite of the SLC munis to photograph. Its openness and light produced my most dramatic images from the entire municipal system, making its disappearance especially hard to accept.
