The Heron Course at The Oaks Club in Sarasota first opened in 1984, designed by Willard Byrd. Originally known for its classic Florida style, the layout was completely reimagined in 2017 by Jason Straka of Fry/Straka Design. Straka’s renovation modernized the course with bold new bunkering, re-contoured green complexes, and vastly improved drainage, all while incorporating native landscaping and sustainable design practices. The result is a par-72 layout that balances beauty and challenge, weaving through preserves and water features with a fresh, contemporary character that complements its natural surroundings.
