Soldier Hollow, in Wasatch Mountain State Park in Heber Valley, holds a unique place in my heart. Two distinct 18-hole layouts—Gold and Silver—designed by Gene Bates, offer one of the most compelling public golf experiences anywhere. The Gold Course is a true test, stretching more than 7,700 yards across open, links-style terrain with bold elevation changes and sweeping views. The Silver Course, with slightly gentler contours, is every bit as scenic.

I was hired by Utah State Parks to photograph Soldier Hollow ahead of the 2012 USGA National PubLinks, which led to my role as the event’s official photographer. That work opened the door to photographing three additional state-owned courses and 23 of Utah’s state parks.

I love this place.
