Providence Country Club, Charlotte, North Carolina

Providence Country Club, set in the heart of Charlotte, features a classic Dan Maples–designed course that opened in 1989. The par-72 layout winds through gently rolling terrain, with tree-lined fairways, strategic bunkering, and water hazards that provide both challenge and beauty. In 2018, Kris Spence led a major renovation, rebuilding greens, bunkers, and tees while enhancing playability and modernizing conditioning. I photographed Providence in 2014 and was treated to two spectacular sunrises that illuminated the course in brilliant light—making it one of my most memorable shoots and a perfect showcase of the club’s scenic charm.
