Old Oakland Golf Club, on the northeast side of Indianapolis, is a private 27-hole facility originally designed by Pete Dye in 1964. Known for his bold use of angles, mounding, and risk-reward challenges, Dye created three distinct nines—the East, West, and South—that can be played in varied combinations. Over the years, renovations have refined greens, bunkers, and conditioning, but the course still reflects Dye’s unmistakable style. I photographed Old Oakland in 2013, during a period when my wife was working in Indianapolis, and found the club’s rolling terrain and classic Dye features an inspiring subject to capture.
