Founded in 1892, Glen Arven Golf Club is one of the oldest clubs in the South and a cornerstone of Thomasville’s history. The original nine holes were laid out by local enthusiasts, with a second nine added in the early 20th century to create a full 18. Over time, the course evolved through work by noted designers, including Donald Ross. In the early 2000s,
Bob Cupp led a thoughtful renovation that refined the layout while respecting its classic roots.
I photographed Glen Arven in 2016, about a year after Cupp’s work was completed, and found the course beautiful, the club genuinely welcoming, and the town of Thomasville well worth a visit.
