Forest Hills Golf Course in Augusta, Georgia, opened in 1926 and was designed by Donald Ross as a public course—built to be played, walked, and lived with by the local community. Nearly a century later, it remains one of Augusta’s most enduring and approachable courses.

I photographed Forest Hills in 2025, as the club was still recovering from the hurricanes of 2023, which wiped out nearly 4,000 trees across the property. The loss dramatically altered long-familiar corridors and sightlines, revealing parts of Ross’s routing that had been hidden for decades. These images reflect a course in transition—scarred in places, unexpectedly open in others, and quietly resilient as it finds its footing again.
