I’ve photographed East Lake Golf Club many times since 2015, and its evolution continues to captivate me.
Originally laid out by Tom Bendelow in the early 1900s and soon reworked by Donald Ross, the course still carries Ross’s routing at its core. Rees Jones restored much of that intent in the 1990s, and Andrew Green’s recent renovation—completed ahead of the 2024 Tour Championship—further refined bunker forms, greens, and land movement.
When the club flipped the nines in 2016, the identity of one of my favorite sunrise locations shifted with it. The old 6th, now the 15th, remains one of my favorite places anywhere to photograph.blue hour and the sun bursting over the distant trees at dawn.
